What Homer currently advertises
Homer’s official product pages describe home inventory, item scanning, automatic collection of product details, manuals and warranty information, maintenance guidance, and floor-plan features. Its U.S. App Store listing shows in-app purchases. Features and terms can change, so confirm them directly before choosing.
Two different product choices
Broad automation vs. deliberate local entry
This is not a claim that one app is universally better. It is a way to choose based on the tradeoff you actually want.
| Priority | HomeSteward | Homer’s advertised approach |
| Record storage | On this iPhone by default; no HomeSteward account or custom record server | Connected service spanning its app and web experience |
| Starting the inventory | Choose generic catalog items or enter details manually | Advertises scanning and automatic collection of item information |
| Manuals and warranties | Enter details; Pro can store PDFs and optionally extract suggestions with your own AI key | Advertises finding and organizing product manuals and warranty information |
| Maintenance guidance | Editable generic estimates with visible source labels; imported suggestions require review | Advertises tailored maintenance information across its broader home record |
| Business model | One home and ten items free; optional one-time Pro purchase | U.S. App Store listing shows in-app purchase options; check current terms there |
| Portability | Raw items, plan, and history CSV copies are free; no photo/PDF bytes | Consult Homer’s current export and account documentation for available options |
HomeSteward may fit if you prefer…
- No account and a local-first database
- A narrow focus on tasks, history, warranties, and records
- Transparent generic/source labels
- A useful Free tier and one-time Pro purchase
- Free raw CSV copies of your tabular data
Homer may fit better if you value…
- Automatic item scanning and product-detail lookup
- Automated manual and warranty discovery
- Broader inventory and floor-plan tools
- A connected service rather than device-only storage
HomeSteward is intentionally less automated. It does not currently identify appliances from photos, fetch manuals automatically, sync through iCloud, or support live household collaboration.
Try the actual core loop
One home is useful for free.
Build a plan for up to ten appliances or systems, complete tasks, keep service history, use local reminders, and export raw CSV copies without purchasing Pro.
If you later need unlimited homes/items, receipt and nameplate photos, manual PDFs, or a home maintenance overview PDF, Pro is one in-app purchase rather than a subscription.
